It's a big topic for me. Since I've started living with my husband I gradually put up weight. Well I still looked ok, not puffy ore anything. And because it looked normal I didn't worry too much about it and my BMI was normal so I was busy studying and enjoying my life. After having a baby 2 years ago I put up more weight and looked puffy. Of course I didn't like what I saw in a mirror any more. I was afraid of working out (and I didn't like to exercise at all) because I was breastfeeding and had some troubles with milk so I thought if I start exercising milk will be gone completely. It was both reason and excuse not to work out. After my milk was completely gone I started thinking how to lose weight.
First thought that comes to most of people when they want to lose weight is - DIET! Is it just me who see a word "die" there?
When you think of a diet it always comes to you as giving up on everything you love and basically going hungry all day long. So you look for diets that will work quickly so you won't have to suffer a long time. Haha! Now I know how funny it sounds after I've read a lot and tried some. But first I'll tell you how I came up to that.
So diets. I guess I don't have much of will power so I several times started dieting and gave up quickly. I've tried Atkins diet (the one when you eat mostly protein). For a week I kinda stayed there but than I was craving for sweets really badly so all it did - pushed me to eating tones of sweets and puting up even more weight. To tell the truth just later I realised that I have a kind of hormonal break down and no matter what I did I couldn't loose more than 1kg. And when you don't see any results after diets you become depressed and give up on a whole idea.
Most of the time I was in a bad mood, I hated what I saw in a mirror. Clothes shopping was more like a torture.
Than I came across a book about losing weight with low glycemic load foods. Well I've started to lose weight but the problem was there weren't many foods in the book and on internet there were completely different numbers there and it was quite confusing.
This summer I came across this 5 day diet where it seemed worth to try. It was crazy. I was hungry all the time. I survived 4 days and that ate pizza lol.
Shortly after that I've found wonderful app that really made a difference. MyFitnessPal I know that many people know about it for a long time. I've heard about calorie counting but I've thought of it old fashion way like writing everything down in a notebook. Never actually thought that it's already as easy as scanning a barcode on a packet and choosing amount or looking on the list.
With that I've finally came to this thought that weight loss is not about diet, or about exercises. It's about both at the same time.
See how long it took me to realize that???
I'm never hungry. If I want my favorite brownie - I walk to starbucks and get it and I burn same amount of calories walking there as in the brownie. I don't give up on my favorite foods I just don't eat all of them at the same time. Take smaller amounts, share or leave for next day. And I'm happy.
I started with just staying in a green zone. Like more I eat - more I have to exercise. Now I switched not to go over 1300 cals of food. Every time I burn more than 500 cals I put a "loonie" in my weight loss jar. This week's challenge is to burn every day over 500 cals.
Also I started Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred and I also do her Killer buns and thighs. And I really love her workouts even though I still don't really like to work out.
I've found tones of great, healthy and low cal recipes on internet. I started feeling better. I try to cook more often, I take long walks with my family. And I started liking what i see in a mirror.
As for today I've been on MFP 50 days and I lost 4 kilos (got back to before preg weight). Even though I got much busier than I used to be, but I have much more energy.
Really look forward to clothes shopping when I lose couple more kilos.
Sometimes I really wish I came to this a year ago. But I guess it supposed to be so. I had to go all this way. Well for some people it takes much longer than 1 year.
Good luck to everyone!!!
